Review: Like Family

Image
Like Family by Erin O. White My rating: 5 of 5 stars I loved this wonderful book that was mainly about three families. I loved how there were many different types of families displayed throughout this book and how it shows that there isn't one way to be family. I also loved that everyone was struggling in their own way and was going through their own self-journey which impacted the relationship, of course. Isn't that too often why things are so hard? I loved so much of the dialogue and I fell in love with each character and found myself for rooting for every single one of them. Even now as I think about it, I smile and feel the warmth of remembering them. Highly recommended. with gratitude to netgalley and The Dial Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. View all my reviews

Review: The Suicide House

Image
The Suicide House by Charlie Donlea My rating: 4 of 5 stars Yes I went on a Donlea spree. Why not. His books are fun, fast, and while a bit creepy, I loved Rory/Lane so I was excited to read more of them. View all my reviews

Review: The Summer War

Image
The Summer War by Naomi Novik My rating: 5 of 5 stars I love Naomi Novik. Her writing is so beautiful. Her ideas are so heartwarming and joyful and interesting. Her characters always stay with me and this beautiful story was no exception. If anything, it's proof that she's so talented and can create deeply memorable characters and stories in much shorter format. I also loved how visual and creative this one was. with gratitude to netgalley and Del Rey for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. View all my reviews

Review: Katabasis

Image
Katabasis by R.F. Kuang My rating: 1 of 5 stars Ok I might be an exception, but this book was TERRIBLE! It was really just an excuse for the author to show off how smart and well-read she is. The characters are one-dimensional. There's no actual spark. The book drops a million names and ideas without explaining any of them. What a waste. View all my reviews

Review: Immaculate Conception

Image
Immaculate Conception by Ling Ling Huang My rating: 5 of 5 stars Excellent and interesting. What an unusual premise and so well written. This book is about friendship, beauty, art, and jealousy. There's also a lot of interesting ideas about possible futures and love and it's truly unique. Worth reading. View all my reviews

Review: How About Now: Poems

How About Now: Poems by Kate Baer My rating: 5 of 5 stars I love Kate Bear. I still remember how much her first collection impacted me and I couldn't wait to read these. As she moves to new stages in her life, the poems have moved too. Motherhood, family, and life are the themes and always being a woman, too. She is such a gift and I can't recommend her poetry enough. with gratitude to netgalley and Harper Perennial for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. View all my reviews
